From Ajahn Brahm’s public talk at the University of Toronto, answering Q&A, posted on YouTube channel urbanbuddhistmonk. Ajahn talked about how ego is built around fear. Overcoming ego is about letting go of fear, and having instead a sense of adventure, to experiment and try things differently. Overcoming the sense of fear means overcoming the sense of control. “If you make a mistake, then just laugh: then the world will never laugh AT you but WITH you.” On overcoming ego, another method is to have people think beyond their individual selves in relationships, but about US.
