  • questions on buddha and the dhamma.

    Dear bhante,

Gvien Buddha had purified all his kilesas, and was really kind and compassionate, i find it fascinating that even he had people who criticized him and tried to harm him. of course, those people had not purified their kilesas, but how come buddha's kindness couldn't penetrate whatever judgement / ill will others had towards him ?

-does this go to show that, no matter how purified you are, while you are in this realm/ world, you will have your share of people opposing you / criticizing you, and what buddhism shows is how not to be internally affected by these conditions?

    - so is there a realm where beings dont oppose each other and live in exact harmony all the time?

-on a totally unrelated topic, and just out of curiosity, are there stream winners living a lay life in the dhamma community ?

    - could a stream winner be a soldier / lawyer / politician ( what im getting at is, could they hold jobs where morality is undecided at best) ?

    thanks in advance

    Dear Kindu,

Goody - lots of questions here:

but how come buddha's kindness couldn't penetrate whatever judgement / ill will others had towards him ?
Indeed, the Buddhas just show the way.

does this go to show that, no matter how purified you are, while you are in this realm/ world, you will have your share of people opposing you / criticizing you
    Yes!

what buddhism shows is how not to be internally affected by these conditions?
    Exactly.

so is there a realm where beings dont oppose each other and live in exact harmony all the time?
Hmm, maybe the Jhana Realms. You can't talk or perceive others there anyway (as far as I know).

on a totally unrelated topic, and just out of curiosity, are there stream winners living a lay life in the dhamma community ?
Could be. There are certainly a lot who claim to be. (And who claim to be arahants for that matter).

could a stream winner be a soldier / lawyer / politician ( what im getting at is, could they hold jobs where morality is undecided at best) ?
A stream winner could not practice wrong livelyhood. I guess if you were forced into military service and still avoided killing someone, that might be possible. But lawyers and politicians? No way!

(That was a joke, we have good lawyers in the Buddhist Society and some politicians really do try to help the world.)

    Any more questions?

    Cheers,

    Bhante J.R.
