  • Lay Person teaching meditation to Prisoners

    Dear Ajahn Brahmali,

Is it advisable for a lay person like me to teach meditation to prisoners as a form of social service? Would the temperament of someone who is not exactly a monastic be good enough to teach prisoners and not cause problems.

I believe monks from Bodhinyana have been doing this for quite a while. It would be helpful if you could share some information on this matter.

    With Metta.

    Dear Abhishek,

Go for it! I promise you you will learn so much from teaching others. The monks at Bodhinyana do teach at a prison nearby, but lay people from the BSWA are also involved. There is no reason why just monastics should do this.

    With metta.
